Old Phuket Town Festival

Old Phuket Town Festival : As in past years, streets in the old part of Phuket Town will be pedestrians-only, with street entertainers, food stalls and the chance to take a look inside some of the old town’s fascinating shop-houses.

In the Queen Sirikit Park (on Thalang Rd, next to the Toursim Authority of Thailand’s offices), ten entertainment groups from China, acrobats, Shaolin Kung Fu experts, Tibetan dancers, a mask dance from Sichuan and extracts from Chinese opera will occupy the specially erected stage. Thao Thep Krasatri-Thao Sri Suntorn Festival  : A major 2 week festival covering culture, history and sporting events. The festival is held to honour the memory of 2 heroic sisters, Thaop Thep Krasatri and Thai Sri Suntorn. Street water fights, partying and carnival atmosphere that lasts for the 3 days. Everyone gets soaked and since it is the hottest month of the year in Thailand with temperatures in some parts reaching 40degrees, the custom is quite refreshing!

Phuket International Marathon  : The event is a fun and family oriented affair with various races for all levels. The race course has water stations every 1.5 – 2K providing water, sponges, electrolytes and fruits. Mobile toilets are placed at regular intervals and the course is marked at every kilometre. July :

 

Phuket Race Week  : Six Senses Phuket Raceweek, now in its eighth year, has been voted ‘Best Asian Regatta of the Year’ in the Asia Boating Awards 2011, which recognise the cream of Asia’s marine industry across 23 categories, from boat builders to marinas to regattas. The awards ceremony was held at the Gold Coast Yacht and Country Club in Hong Kong on May 6, 2011. September :

 

Quicksilver Thailand Surfing competetion  : This year’s Phuket annual surf event is moving to Patong from Kata Beach and will become a much bigger event and a part of the international competition, the ASEAN Surfing Championship held in Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia and Malaysia. The third Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition 2011 is set for September 21-24 at the northern part of Patong beach. Vegetarian Festival  : The Phuket Vegetarian Festival is an annual event held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar. It is believed that the vegetarian festival and its accompanying sacred rituals bestow good fortune upon those who religiously observe this rite. During this time, local residents of Chinese ancestry strictly observe a 10-day vegetarian or vegan diet for the purposes of spiritual cleansing and merit-making. Sacred rituals are performed at various Chinese shrines and temples and aesthetic displays such as walking barefooted over hot coals and ascending ladders with bladed rungs are performed by entranced devotees known as "Ma Song".

Phuket Thailand Open  : The Thailand resort city of Phuket will host its sixth FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour event from November 1-6 as the 2011 international beach volleyball calendar a women’s-only event. Phuket Thailand Open Phuket Loy Kratong Festival

Phuket Loy Kratong Festival : Loy Krathong Festival, pronounced Loy Kratong, is is held every full moon night in November, the only full moon in November. This is a festival where Thai people prepare small round boats known as 'kratong's' made banana tree trunks and and decorated with banana tree leaves woven together and flowers, candles and incense and food. These small hand made floats are set out upon the water - rivers, canals, ponds, and the sea floating and glowing. Their prayers are uttered so that the kratong will float away, taking away all the bad spirits and sins along with it. Phuket International Sport Fishing

Phuket International Sport Fishing : The P.I.S.T. 2011 is a 3 day team fishing event with top team honors going to the team that tallies the most points (per kilo) during the Tournament.

The Tournament also awards prizes to the team that catch the largest fish (by weight) in each eligible species.
